Our environmental approach

Reducing landfill
takes work.

Is reducing landfill worth the extra time, labour and care?

We believe it is.

Our aim is simple: to keep as much as reasonably possible out of landfill by prioritising reuse, rehoming and recycling.

Our process

It starts with sorting.

Most property clearances contain a mixture of reusable belongings and different materials. Before treating anything as waste, we follow a strict sorting process to determine what can remain whole and what must be separated.

Usable items are prioritised for reuse or rehoming, while items made from several materials are dismantled so components such as timber, metal, foam and textiles can follow their individual recovery or recycling pathways.

First priority

Keep useful items in use.

Our first priority is to keep useful items whole. Furniture and household goods that remain safe, functional and in reasonable condition are set aside for reuse or rehoming.

Recycling becomes the next option when an item cannot continue to be used in its original form.

When separation is needed

When an item cannot be reused whole.

Some bulky household items are made from several different materials and cannot be placed into a single recycling stream. In these cases, the item is dismantled and its individual components are separated.

A sofa, for example, can contain timber, metal, foam and fabric. A mattress can contain steel springs, foam, textiles and timber. Separating these materials by hand gives each recoverable component the opportunity to follow its own recycling pathway.

This process takes additional time and effort, but taking that extra care is what we pride ourselves on.

Individual pathways

What happens to the separated materials?

Once items have been sorted and dismantled, each material has its own next step.

  • MetalSent for metal recycling and made into new products.
  • TimberDirected to timber recovery and chipped for uses such as mulch, compost or weed matting.
  • Green wasteProcessed into mulch or compost.
  • FoamDirected into specialist recovery streams for products such as carpet underlay.
  • Recoverable textilesProcessed for uses such as acoustic panelling.
  • Electrical itemsKept separate and taken to an approved e-waste recycling facility.

Separating these materials helps recover their remaining value instead of treating everything as one load of rubbish.

Why the extra effort matters

A win for the community, a win for the environment—and peace of mind for you.

Knowing that every reasonable effort is made to reuse or recycle every item we collect.
